Governor Labourdonnais constructed an arsenal at Turtle Bay in which he enclosed
all ammunitions required for the colony.Unfortunately due to mishandling of the
ammunition there was a big explosion in 1774.This is how the village derived its name.

Today Arsenal is a quiet village with some attractions: pottery works of all sorts such as
flower pots, water pots,lamps, candlesticks, small statues and so on.From there one can go
to visit the historical ruins at Ville Valio including an old arsenal, an old factory and
an old stone castle.An underground passage leads to Baie Aux Tortues.
