Library

The Pamplemousses/Riviere du Rempart District Council is the first rural authority to offer library services to its inhabitants. The Council library opened its doors in 1955.

Today, after almost fifty years of existence, the library, under the charge of Mr G.Gokool, the responsible officer, is undergoing major changes.

In order to make the task of the library users as easy as possible, the Council has acquired a library management system.

The library offers the following services to the public:-

  • Lending services
  • Reference services
  • Aims and Objectives
  • To promote and encourage the use of library material.
  • To promote local authors by acquiring copies of their books.
  • To lend library materials to the public.

Subject areas covered: - Philosophy, Religion, Social Sciences, Languages, Technology, Literature, History etc
The library has a stock of some 20,000 volumes.
The absence of a reprographic service is being urgently felt and the Council has approved the purchase of a photocopying machine.

The right information at the right time is a motto to which every library subscribes and the Council is also making provision to give internet services to its library users.
